Sustainability Studies 奖学金 & 奖学金


奖学金 and Fellowship funding opportunities are available to prospective and current students. Applications are received on a rolling basis, and there is a priority deadline of May 5 for summer term, August 5 for fall term and December 5 for spring term. Application fees can be waived using code THANKS when applying for the Sustainability Studies 程序.

Permaculture Fellows also help plan events for the campus and community on permaculture and sustainability ideas and practices

学生 intending to pursue these areas of study through the sustainability studies graduate 程序 are encouraged to apply. 奖学金 can also be used to support graduate studies projects focused on these areas.

学生 who are awarded fellowships will receive tuition for up to six credit hours of school in a semester.

Awards are designed as first-semester and last-semester funding opportunities and are contingent upon acceptance into the sustainability studies graduate 程序.

This fellowship is made available through the university's Reese Institute, which was made possible by a generous gift from the estate of Tom Reese and functions on both the Hickory and Asheville campuses.

通过团契, students are involved with many resume-building projects, providing hands-on experience in designing, developing and implementing sustainability initiatives that have real-world applications. 学生 work collaboratively and independently to develop the key competencies employers seek in sustainability professionals.

Qualified fellows receive a $600-$1,800 tuition reduction as compensation for 45-120 hours of sustainability-related work over the course of a semester.

The cover letter should detail why the Reese Fellowship would be beneficial for your development and why you would be a good candidate to receive this Fellowship. 

The scholarship is competitive and awarded based on a committee review of application essays about what one hopes to achieve through an education focused on conservation and sustainability.

奖学金s are open to everyone and prioritization is given in the following order:

  • Trout Unlimited employees and other affiliates of Trout Unlimited
  • 学生 seeking either a Masters in Sustainability Studies or a Bachelors in Environmental Science in Policy who have committed to the Accelerated Master's Degrees 程序. 
  • 学生 interested in conservation work in other degree 程序s.

奖学金 awards are $3,540 to $4,130 per year toward tuition and additional fees. This translates to six to seven credit hours per year. 奖学金s are contingent upon acceptance into an LR 程序 and continuation in good standing.

The scholarship is made possible through the Philip H. Bracewell,老., Conservation Education Endowment, established in honor of Philip H. Bracewell老., who lived in Hickory and was a founding director of Trout Unlimited and Ducks Unlimited North Carolina. Bracewell served for more than 16 years as Trout Unlimited national director and for 14 years as chairman of the Trout Unlimited Awards Committee. In 1984, he was awarded the Distinguished 服务 Award from Trout Unlimited National.
